Here we are, again. Another precipice, another inflection point. Another month where we grapple with what it means to exist on a [beautiful, beautiful] rock hurtling through space at millions of miles an hour. Fumbling through any of the many made-up codes laid upon us as seemingly-inherent shoulds and expectations.
July presents an opportunity and invitation to remember ancient intelligence, as a creature of living, embedded and ensouled ecosystems. Not made up codes, embedded ones: interconnectedness; reciprocity; listening; feeling; imagining; singing; taking action on behalf of... life. Leaning into this embeddedness is not always easy, and is at times necessarily painful. But to shy away from pain is to pass it down the line.
The horoscopes below ended up being essay length love letters. It seemed more helpful to do that than to try to spew at you anything cohesive by way of a general forecast (although I did in fact do one of those for my Patron friends, and I only woke up three times last night thinking about all the things I meant to say but left out).
Although the July skies convey a multitude of dynamic whooshes that will potentially challenge conventional “trines and sextiles = good” theories (potentially!), your individual experience will likely vary greatly. Some of you will be picking up fire-trine energy and experiencing vision, enthusiastic fun and adventure, breakthroughs... some of you might find yourselves primarily reviewing the emotional warbles of this current Merc Ret period. And so many other possibilities... as always, horoscopes are generalizations. Take what works for you, leave the rest (and consult astrologers for personal guidance that is specific to your chart, life and experience).
Dedicated and in gratitude for those of us who weave our lives amidst the agony and the ecstasy, the pain and the pleasure, and everything in between, in recognition that love, compassion and empathy are the true ultimate gifts.
Thank you for being here.
I recommend reading for your rising sign first, but you might find goodness in your Sun or Moon ‘scope, too. These horoscopes are technically meant for July, but what comes to light or fruition now is likely fodder for the months and years to come.
Aries
When I look at your charts for this month, Aries, I first hear my own personal trademark “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” in my head -- which carries the energy of “go! do! be! see! fuck the patriarchy! yeah!” And then it instantly splashes into a puddle of “wait... what? where am I again?” Hopefully that’s relevant for you or at least worth a little chuckle.
Allow me to translate: one of your specific sparks of brilliance lies in your ability to rush toward paths that will allow for maximum freedom and, ultimately, a brand of authenticity that might be hard-won in your life, but that absolutely changes the lives of those with whom you interact. And yet, in recent months and into this coming one, change is being catalyzed not only in the temples you call friendship and social networks, but in terms of what and who you reach for when it comes to fun, connection, activism and support. Part of this is because the details of where and how you feel free to be me (you) are undergoing crucible-like restructuring, a process which will ebb and flow for many years to come.
Sometimes it might be hard for you to settle in enough to track necessary shifts, and I advise you to proactively build in routines and rituals that support listening to your inner world and then right-braindedly expressing what you find there (ie: art). Doing so will support your ability to rush head first with a little less impact when you hit a wall. Remember: your visionary nature is oh so needed in this world. But some visions need to marinate. Look to “leaders” who can help you to orient.
Taurus
The time for acute zaps has finally passed, and now... to tend to the sore spots that have probably literally or metaphorically emerged through seven years of bracing and adapting. That does not mean everything gets easier in sudden, straightforward ways. Nor does it mean you will be stuck in the aftermath forever (even even very much longer!). I’m just trying to acknowledge, dear Taurus, that Uranus did a number on you for an extended period of time. Now that specific nervous system activation has moved on. So where you at with all of it?
As far as I can tell, at least one part of the story is that your world is opening up again -- and yes, even stabilizing at least a little, which might be hard to trust. When I tuned into your charts, I initially fixated on some broken, rotted fence posts I saw. But then... my body settled, my shoulders move away from my ears, and I saw a landscape opening up. Deeper settling occurred, and I saw a pasture: cattle grazing, wildflowers dotting the scenery, wide open sky, cool(ish) breeze. Next, a deep breath and sign.
Typing that up took a lot of space here in a world where folks encourage horoscope-writers keep attention spans in mind. But I recommend that in the coming days you take a lot of space, too. I know life has its demands, but I encourage you to at least take a little pastoral sigh before pushing yourself into the next thing, and in that process questioning whether the push is an absolute necessity. Your system needs to rest.
Now I’ll add something that might seem a bit contrary to all that, so I’ll caveat it with: you have time. You are being called to transformative leadership over the next many years. Perhaps in your own life, perhaps in the wider world. Let’s let the details make themselves known later. I will ask you to accept that while you have authority and so much invaluable experience, it is okay that you are not authority in whatever the future is bringing you just yet. Read that last line again.
For now, your ancestors are calling with a treasure trove of resilience, magic, blessings and gifts. Discovering the GOOD things you have inherited from them is a tender task right now. What those gifts will specifically look like is to be revealed. You will know them by the ways they help you to feel at home. Later this year you will have opportunities to sort through necessary differences between ways they used these gifts and how you will be using them.
Gemini
You get a burst of energy early in the month, dear Gemmy friend. And, fucking finally, am I right? Mind sparking with new info, new potential, not quite so laden with the trappings of whatever was happening... well... just a few minutes ago, really. Enjoy any bursts of WOW you get this month, and remember to stop and breathe so you can more fully avoid accidents related to rapid motion.
AND ALSO: synergy might be arising in places you’d least expect it. You are not a stranger to longing for something new or to mapping what is interesting to you in the moment. At this point , however, the celestial spheres support a zoom-out even farther than you have zoomed out before to find ways of integrating what you learn. What has become old and stable feels downright infuriating, particularly when it comes to your social networks -- extra particularly when it comes to ways you cling onto what is known and habitual, even though you really just do not like the way things are and desperately want things to change. Ah, a paradox and its juicy, juicy tension.
Perspective shift is mandatory now. Not just in terms of your personal world, but in terms of your relationship to The All. That’s right, the big S(pirituality) has to be reckoned with in the coming months. I mean, it probably does. But I’m only adding that probably because I can see that you’ll likely rebel against me if I tell you anything is Absolutely True. But just as you have a responsibility to your future, you have a responsibility to The Future. Or, better yet and more accurate: an invitation to help shape the future using, among other things, your brilliant, beautiful mind.
You don’t have to reach for the conventional, the organized or any of the many ways of knowing that haven’t worked for you in the past. But think of the possibilities if you widen your perspective. And hey, that could even mean finding ways to travel -- whether that’s abroad, through a course, a new hobby, or in your imagination. Revising your budget in accordance with your “wow-me!” needs is well-supported now. Look toward resources that support your always-mapping-mind, be they financial, relational or other.
Cancer
When I started tuning into your charts, I had to take a dance break. Not a hyper, PARTAY dance vibe, but a “let it flow up, out and through my heart” vibe (*okay, I was listening to Taste Back by Harry Styles, if you must know). As I danced, I thought of some of the Cancer rising folks I know. Y’all go beyond giving; you tend the spaces where we gather and take solace from the outside world. Your knack for helping others feel like they belong and are supported is fundamental -- to who you are, sure, but also to what makes a society work. Creating safe(r) spaces, inviting people in, listening, feeding, orienting toward what is nourishing... all integral the Cancerian Way. Those actions are also integral to resistance on the home front, which I bring in here as a metaphor for what I recommend for you this month, but which I also bring in as a viable set of actions for you to take to make a difference in our current historical epoch while you experience a re-visioning of who you are in your public life and career. Let’s break that down.
I encourage you to prioritize peace at home this month. I don’t mean people pleasing or avoiding conflict. More just doing at least a few things to increase the functionality as your home-as-sanctuary, ensuring it is a place of respite from the outside world. If you’re too exhausted to do whatever needs to be done yourself, I encourage you to ask for help, be that from people in your life, your spirit team, your body or even a delivery person. This is particularly true mid-month.
Remember that tending the home front in the ways mentioned above (and more!) are acts of resistance. Creating safe houses and safe spaces, inviting folks over to discuss revolution or just to feed them before or after they participate in Actions, setting up meal trains or otherwise helping to feed folks at the levels of body, soul and spirit are all necessary now.
But ALSO, friend. You get to tend to yourself, too, and ask others to facilitate that process. Jupiter has moved into your second house of resources. We can think of the second house as the temple that supports the first house and your ability to BE.
To exist in the world as such a sensitive creature, wearing your heart on your sleeve (even if you put your shirt on underneath your shell) can be a lot. But over the coming months, please know that an abundance of resources and resource-ing is yours. The more you devote to that which fortifies and supports you, the more you will be able to tend to the home front. Be open to changing what used to work but does not now. It is highly likely that what you give to the home front will come back to you in spades as well.
LEOtastico!
After a series of seeming false starts earlier this year I imagine you are picking up some emergence vibes, Leo. At the very least, it looks like your soul is recovering some of its shine. Your heart is feeling more open and you might be latching onto a glimmer of hope that tells you positive potentials are just as likely to manifest as those other potentials that have been dampening your spirit. I encourage you to breathe into that heart opening, Leo. No matter how small, no matter how fleeting (and no matter how big, loud and roaring it already might be!).
Here’s the thing: it is in fact true that as we change, our relationships must change, too. Not everyone is meant for you across the entirety of your life span. And, Leo, not everyone is going to love you. That’s okay (and totally their loss)! You can spend your time trying to make supposed haters recognize your brilliance, or you can shine it where it has impact. There are oh-so-many spaces and places where your vitality will be received and then reflected back. Much of the action for you right now is taking place where other people can see -- trust you have built the confidence necessary to sustain it, and give yourself permission to take breaks. Also: bask in the good parts of it, mmkay?
As you come into further congruence with what your here-and-now actual beliefs and values are (as opposed to the ones you had 20 years or months ago), and emerge into a field of coherence between your heart and mind, you might notice more shifts in the shape of your relational world. This is an opportunity for incredibly synergistic alliances, although it might involve needing to process loss, too. Or just letting relationships change shape.
For the first part of this month, I’ll ask you to indulge in at least a little more fun than normal. What helps you to feel buoyant? Exuberant? Alive? By month’s end and into the next, you have some more changes in store. Keep an eye on endings and beginnings. Let what has gotten stuck move on. If your dreams are still speaking up, you would do well to listen.
Virgo
There might be a bit of emotional overwhelm present within you, Virgo. It seems like you have even more good ideas than normal, but perhaps they have hit a snag just before the project was meant to go live -- whether that snag exists in the external world, or within your own precious mind as you have hashed and rehashed potentials, problems and potentials for problems. The general vibe right now shouts, “now is time to execute the plan!” At the same time, you might be catching whispers of doubt arising from within yourself or your people.
Here’s the thing: If the doubts that are arising are related to concrete concerns like money or stamina, there are ways for you to equally concretely put pen to paper and get an objective view on the situation. This can allow you to move forward accordingly. If the doubts that are arising center concern about whether it’s good enough, you’re good enough, if they’ll like it, if it’s right, etc, etc, etc... well... there might still be ways to put pen to paper to get an objective view (aka: ask/talk about it!), but really... can you ever be Prepared Enough?
It is said that when Jupiter travels through your twelfth house you have an angel on your shoulder. That’s happening for you now, Virgo Ascendant friends. For the next week or so, Venus is there, too. You have some cosmic support in the bag, along with the knowledge that: 1.) perfect does not exist outside the realms of loving what exists because it is divine in its existence; 2.) you can revise, revision and edit as needed. Fake it ‘til you make it. Remember that you are whole and loved just by virtue of existing -- everything else you do (which is so much. SO MUCH! Thank you!) is just bonus layers of wonder.
Libra
There is a possibility that relationships are the cause of more strife than you want this month, Libra. Something is coming to a head that makes the conflict more clear, both within you and without. Relational strife hits hard for anyone, but for you it feels like it taps into some deep rooted fears that relational difficulty ultimately leads to isolation and aloneness.
Here’s a reminder, though: periods of relational strife, struggle and conflict do not necessarily result in an ending. Nor are they synonymous with loss or lack of connection, nor do they imply that you did something wrong or have to be the one to fix it. In fact, this is likely not the time to expect either resolution or conclusion, particularly if those around you are in their feels or needing some space. It can be difficult to hold the tension of giving a person space while honoring your own needs and authentic expression, too. Yet... hold the tension you must (probably).
My advise to you is to zoom out a bit. Spend time with communities or groups. Take a class. Or up the ante: express yourself at an open mic night, karaoke bar or a flash mob (um, do those still happen? Maybe organize one!). Post anonymous poetry on the internet. All new ways of expressing yourself are surfacing now.
But more than that, your orientation toward meaning-making and your philosophy of living -- and therefore relating -- is changing. Amidst such changes, as your relational world shifts it would be a shame if you gave into the idea that human relationships are everything, or that loosing one is the absolute worst thing that could happen. I do not say that to diminish the grief and pain of loss. I’m just encouraging you not to fixate on something that has not happened yet, let yourself be a part of a wider adventure this month, and breathe into some spaciousness.
Human relationships are important, and they are tied to our survival and happiness. But your relationship to yourself and this big, wide world are vital parts of the story, too.
Scorpio
What would this world do without people like you? I mean... the strength! The gorgeous intensity! The drive!
Speaking of intensity and drive... those are two words we often use to describe Scorpionics like yourself. And yet... intense about what? Driven toward what? Each of your brethren are going to have different answers to those questions. But for this month, it seems, ya’ll might be more united in your efforts to be seen, known and loved. Your capacity for dynamic, charismatic leadership is strengthening -- although you might need to review and adjust what is happening now toward the end of this year into the next.
Take some time to reflect on your dreams, visions and beliefs this month. Identify the people who you know support them, as well as the people who might. Potentials for new collaboration are being sparked. I would encourage you not to back away from anyone that brings out the scorpion just because you have suspicion. Not that I’m saying throw the suspicion out, either. But are you getting ready to defensively lash because they are not the right collab for you, or because there’s something there that might challenge -- and ultimately expand -- your experience of what is possible? Get curious.
Tend to your health, too, Scorp. You have some synergistic trines impacting the heights of your chart, and their message is explicit: being the mover and shaker you are meant to be requires that you tend to the basics of your meat suit. I’m not raising the alarm for imminent health crisis, but I am encouraging you to take care of routine health matters and anything that’s been an ignored red flag. The flow you so crave is made easier when you have solid foundations.
Sagittarius
Okay... I hate to invoke a well-work Sagittarius cliche, but... no I don’t. Cuz cliches are true! And the truth is, all I want to type here is: but CAN you take a trip? This month? Soon? I think that would be really good for you, Sag. I could spin it and say that a trip could be a physical voyage, a good book, a new class... but there’s something specifically resonant about getting the heck out of your every day routine and away from your regular haunts both because those places are potentially feeling blech to you right now, but also because your heart needs to GO! It doesn’t have to be overseas or even something that requires flight of the airline kind. But go somewhere where you can see the horizon line, and maybe bring a dance party, too.
The omens this month and in the months to come suggest that the time has finally frickin’ come for you to share your beliefs with the world. Here’s the rub: this process of sharing will inherently and (probably) absolutely change your beliefs. That kind of change is not necessarily within your comfort zone, but it is absolutely the comfort zone of folks who know how to talk and teach about belief. Practice letting your views change as you live through them. Just as I will always encourage you to beware the false prophet, I will also remind you not to become the asshole guru who gets swept up in everything identification with being The Knower brings.
If or as your relationships receive shake-ups this month, look for unment or emergent emotional needs, and take some time to lean into what is being communicated from within you. By the time Mercury stations direct on July 23 I bet you will have some important insights -- or asks -- to share.
Capricorn
As the month begins, it is possible that tumultuous undertones are rising to the surface. After years and years of Plutonian upwellings squeezing through your core, the final death has happened. The gravestone has been etched, the remnants are in the ground. And now, my love, it is time to make space to actually feel the aftershocks. That feeling does not have to happen all at once. The first step? Pay attention to the parts of your health that might need some attention now. Is there some kind of daily practice, no matter how small, that will support your body’s vital functions? Okay, great. Put that into play. Make any appointments that need to be made.
Let’s talk about your relationships. They might be needing some revisions, particularly in terms of acknowledging: whether you feel like an alien in spaces you used to belong; how you might shy away from a need to be held -- by arms and bodies, specifically -- in ways that help you feel safe enough to cry. Or, conversely but similarly, ways you might hold everyone around you in an attempt to get that need met through proxy.
In an era when straight-to-the-outer-world emotional processing seems to be the thing to do, you need a heaping dose of privacy. Privacy is not the same as hiding or burrowing into self-reliance -- or being alone. By the end of the month and into the next, I imagine, the emerging story of this eclipse cycle will reveal new needs for recognition. Recognition of what, you might ask? It looks like recognition of anger, struggle, resistance (in that activism sense) -- both of your recent life experiences, but also the experiences of your people, spanning periods of time much farther than conscious memory can reach. What can you do to pay homage to where you’ve come from, where you want to go -- and with whom? And then, I imagine, you emerge even more fully resourced with heart-centered, brilliant humans and beings surrounding and celebrating you all the time. Not as you were then, but as you are now.
Aquarius
Life is made of paradox. This truth is something you understand at a soul level. For example, I imagine that you all at once crave spacious freedom and room to be yourself, while also craving connected community and at least a little of the widened perspective that comes from having a social life. The thing is, although these might feel like conflicting needs within you, they do not have to be.
This month brings opportunities for encountering super shiny, radiant humans who have something to show you. I do not know whether you will love or hate that, but I encourage you to engage with curiosity. It’s okay to keep a slightly cooling distance for now, but this person or these people have something to show you about how you can settle into your own style of relational leadership -- whether because they show you something that’s an absolute no or an enthusiastic yes. Keep in mind that the people we encounter are often reflecting something back to us that we need to learn in order to become more congruent.. and whole.
You have recently entered a phase where your relationship with being too much and also not enough is up for review at many different levels. The symbols suggest an unmasking in some ways, Aquarius, although it is a lengthy process. What happens if you lead with your intensity? What happens if you open up to new ways of expressing yourself and your passions?
What happens if you bring some care and tenderness to the parts of your lineage that have toiled under scarcity -- of physical, emotional or spiritual resources -- or felt the weight of exile?
Put the scientist within you to work exploring these little experiments. Remember, however, that understanding and integration are a full-system process -- your heart can metabolize and integrate what your mind cannot.
Pisces
Oh, hai. The strangest thing happened when I started working with your charts. I am going to consider it divinatory insight and intuition. You will have to tell me if I’m right once we hit August. I pulled up the first chart, sat back in my chair and then: full body chills. A sigh. Relief.
Now, I can cognate meaning out of this. You see, this month features a “basket” aspect configuration in the skies. The first Pisces chart I looked at showed the basket in its proper orientation -- bottom of the basket at the bottom of the chart (okay, it was a little angled, but whatever). My post-chills-and-sigh thought was, “aaah. everything in its right place.” Because it literally was. Rather than seeing a basket tilted and emptying, I was seeing a basket that could hold its contents. And no, my divinatory insight is not that you are a basket that can hold its contents (um, okay, it kind of is, and I kind of thing that reminder might be useful).
My divinatory insight is that this month will allow for moments or days of feeling like everything is in its right place. Have you ever felt that, Pisces? Even a simple or fleeting memory will do. I hate to generalize, but I will ‘cuz horoscope: I imagine that in some ways you never feel like anything is in its right place, while at the same time having enviable access to a cosmic optimism or knowing that everything is in fact always in its right place.
That cosmic knowing will serve you well this month. And so, I recommend spending some time proactively tapping into it. Call to mind and heart times in your life that have been saturated with the okay-even-if-it’s-not-okay quality that imbues your spirit. Calling on and intentionally connecting with memories allows our cellular memory of those times to awaken, which can be used to our advantage when reaching for something reassuring or comforting. Keeping in mind that yes, even the good memories can contain bittersweetness and even hints of pain.
There is something ethereal emerging within you now, too. A crackling of insight that I believe will help you to move away from difficult patterns you have long been toiling with. It is going to be a process. But for now, look for delight in the present moment and remember that when your basket gets to full, you can in fact tilt it a bit to make some more room.

"I know life has its demands, but I encourage you to at least take a little pastoral sign before pushing yourself into the next thing, and in that process questioning whether the push is an absolute necessity. Your system needs to rest."
I am feeling this from my Taurus Sun horoscopes too keenly right now... having just pushed to write a second, time-sensitive astro-essay this week, only to discover that I MIGHT have lost my entire photos library on my MacBook from the last ~10 years...
Ok, Mercury, yes, I should have heeded my computer's promptings to back it up, rather than stubbornly wanting to get a new external hard drive for that and then repeatedly forgetting to do so...
Fingers crossed that the computer-savvy friend I just texted will be able to explain what happened and how to restore things. But I have a huge, nagging feeling I might have overwritten something somewhere while I had an older photo library backup attached to this laptop this week, searching futilely to see if I might have a decent photo somewhere of a certain flag. :-(
Thank you, as always, for your sensitive, encouraging writing, Amanda!
